You cannot take the task of cleaning tile floors for granted even though one of the best things about tiles is that they are usually easy to maintain. They need constant touching up, and thus it is best you do not shirk away from the regular cleaning responsibly if you want them to look as good as new for years to come. Here is how you can make sure they always look fresh and well maintained…

Firstly, just like in case of all kinds of flooring, here too regular mopping of the floor is an absolute must. The regularity with which you must wet-mop them would depend on how prone the area is to getting dirty. For instance, at places like the living room or the kitchen, daily tile and grout cleaning is extremely crucial, while in rooms like the guest rooms- that are seldom used, once a week cleaning should be enough.

While that was about the daily maintenance, a complete tile cleaning and scrubbing must be opted for every few months. Ideally, you should get the floors cleaned with a tile cleaning machine once in every six months during the first few years of your flooring. Once your floor gets older than say 3-5 years, you may need to start getting it cleaned professionally every 3 months.

In case you have children or pets in your home, a good idea is to wet-mop the tile floors with strong disinfectants. You can first rub the floor with any ceramic tile cleaner solution, and then spray and wipe the area with the disinfectant.

Be extra careful to reach out to even those areas that are otherwise not easily accessible, since these can be the breeding grounds for most insects and germs. It is also suggested that you treat the floor with floor shine solutions very once in a while to retain its appeal longer. This however would not be required if you have a matte finished floor.

For cleaning ceramic tiles on the outdoors, like at the porch or on the driveway, etc, different kinds of solutions may have to be used. A good idea is to first wash away the dirt with water and then spray the solution. Mop it over, concentrating on the areas that seem to have developed stains. This should be enough for regular maintenance purposes.

At the end of the day, what you really need to remember is that it is not difficult to clean on a regular basis. The real trouble lies in cleaning up floors that haven’t been maintained well. So take the job of cleaning tile floors seriously and save the endless expenses on professional service, while getting a year of nice shiny floor for free!
