Effective Use of Modern Lamps and Home Design for a Warmer Ambiance

There are several ways to light a room and this is determined by the function and/or dimensions of the room.

If a room has high ceilings, you generally use low hanging pendant lamps that let no light out of the top to shorten high ceilings; a small room on the other hand can be made bigger with brighter lights and wide rooms should have the ends illuminated.

As a general rule, rooms should be illuminated according to the user’s needs, but what if you have a multipurpose room? Lights are used strategically to divide a room into different activity areas. You can use pendant lamps, track lighting, recessed or built-in lighting fixtures on walls and ceilings, floor lamps or table lamps to achieve your goal of functionality.

Keep in mind that a room with dark walls and floors reflect less light and requires more light for general tasks than rooms with light-colored walls and floors. It is therefore necessary to perform a balancing act in all rooms when it comes to light. Another way of using light effectively is by installing light dimmers as an evenly lit room very quickly becomes boring aside from giving fatigue to the user.

Familiarizing yourself with the basic types of lighting will make your use of modern lamps and home design integration easier and straightforward:

Ambient Light are hidden sources of light that washes a room with a glow. It flattens interior space and creates very little shadow. Examples of ambient lighting fixtures are wall sconce and Japanese paper shades.

Accent Light are generally directional lighting that adds interest or highlights a certain object. Examples are halogen spotlights and table lamps with opaque shades.

Task Lighting is lighting used to perform daily activities such as reading, cooking, shaving, putting on makeup. These need to be glare-free and should enhance the user’s visual clarity and prevents the eyes from getting tired. These are generally useful in the kitchen.

Aesthetic Lighting are lighting that are works of art like a decorative neon sculpture or a spotlight illuminating a statue or portrait.

Natural Lighting a composed of sunlight, candlelight and firelight; as these lights move they are sometimes referred to as kinetic. The quality of natural light, sunlight in particular, depends on many things–time of day, weather, what season it is. Fall has a different light than summer, for instance. The setting sun gives a different kind of light than midday sun.

These various types of lights are used in combination with one another to achieve the best possible effect and derive the best function from them. Choosing the correct home lighting by using modern lamp fixtures is one of the most important facets of home decoration because you are able to create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. With right home lighting, you can make your home look extravagant and make it warm, cozy and inviting. There is no end to what you can accomplish with proper home lighting.

Decorative modern lamps add an element of style your home’s room designs but they also need to be practical and able to handle the majority of your home lighting requirements. There are numerous different types of lamps like floor lamps, table lamps, desk lamps and buffet lamps that you can purchase depending on your decor, home design and lighting needs including the overall lighting effect you wish to create.

In addition, make sure that your choice of lamps fit your lifestyle. Never underestimate the importance of quality and do not sacrifice it for price.
